Support Groups

CDAD hosts a number of meetings, called Colleagues in Recovery, which are open to dentists and dental students in recovery and those seeking peer support.

Our preamble states:

"Colleagues in Recovery is a fellowship of doctorate level healthcare professionals who meet regularly to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help each other recover from chemical dependency.  The only requirement for membership is a desire or need to stop using mind-altering chemicals.  There are no dues or fees for membership.  We are supported in part by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) and the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) but do not report back to them.  Anonymity and confidentiality are essential traditions of our group and respect for them is expected of all members.  We are not allied with any political or religious organization.  Our primary purpose is to remain clean and sober and to help others recover from chemical dependency."

For those in recovery, there are approximately 1500 AA meetings each week in Eastern Massachusetts alone. A list is available at most meetings, at CDAD, and online from AA Central Service: 368 Congress Street, Boston (617) 426-9444. In addition, there are a number of professional peer support groups, which, while not technically AA meetings, follow AA guidelines.
